David West is a couture cabinet maker with a difference.
His company Westwood Ltd. is the only company worldwide that creates products constructed out of rare mature rosewood timber, and he is now turning his hand to producing a line of bespoke watch winder boxes and humidors.
Dalbergia nigra, otherwise known as Brazilian Rosewood, is no longer allowed to be felled and holds the same level of protection as ivory.
The precious material is prized for its beautiful amber, red and purple hues, and was used in high-end furniture pieces of the late 18th/19th centuries.
Following legal battles, David West, who was bequeathed a collection of the wood by his father, is now able to use the material for his creations, with the store providing enough to produce a strictly limited amount of 280 boxes.
